South Eastern Italy
To view South Eastern Italy from the air one would see a very flat land with many white buildings dotted around. Close to the area of Alberobello you will see that these buildings are the conical shaped houses called Trullis. Part of this area many centuries ago was covered in dense forest. Now you can see a mosaic of fields where the farmers tend to very fertile land. This region has many natural ports with a lively fishing industry. Once part of ancient Greece the Romans later controlled the region as a vital stop on the trade route to the East.
In recent years many of the Trullis have ended up as desirable residenses for those wanting something a liitle different, many of the properties for sale being just shells to begin with. A little imagination can turn these into very enviable dwellings.
