| The region of Calabria is well worth a visit as it is rich in both beauty and history. Still a largely unknown area to international tourisim, it has a wealth to offer. Throughout its history the Greeks, Normans and Saracens have invaded it. All have left their mark and Calabria today has a vast amount of architectural wealth. It also has great scenic beauty and the landscape is majestic with mountains reaching over 3000mt dropping dramatically to the sea. It is hard to imagine how such a variety of countryside can be encapsulated in one area. We have properties for sale both on the coast and inland in the National Park. | ![]() |

![]() | Along the Calabrian coastline are beautiful old towns like San Nicola Arcella and Diamante. These old towns with their ' centro storico ' are a delight to explore, and have great character. Property here is still relatively inexpensive. However these are places on the turn and beautifully renovated houses now sit side by side with old properties in need of renovation. Once totally dependent on fishing but now becoming holiday retreats, they are reminiscent of Port Isaac in Cornwall twenty years ago. |
| Maratea, Praia-a-Mare and San Nicola Arcella are located in the beautiful Bay of Policastro. Dino Island sits proudly in front of Praia and the surrounding waters are now a marine park, famous for a particular coral reef. Aquatic sports like scuba diving are very popular here and in winter skiing is available in the mountains only half an hour inland. | ![]() |
![]() | Around this coastline are many secluded bays and coves, some only reachable by boat and even in the height of summer, relatively quiet. Properties in the small towns like San Nicola Arcella which sits 110mt above the sea have amazing views of this beautiful bay. |
| Much of the coastline is now fortunately protected from future development. For the price of a two bedroom flat on the Sussex coast it is possible to purchase a villa with spectacular sea views. Although our opinion is not exactly unbiased! We honestly believe thatunrepeatable value is to be found here. | ![]() |
![]() | The Southern Italian food, we believe, is second to none. It varies markedly from from region to region and even village to village giving the traveller a gourmet experience. Many of the dishes are steeped in traditional history and use only the freshest ingredients. |
| And of course, with such an interesting history, eating is never dull! Mushrooms and truffles are an important ingredient in the dishes of Basilicata and the further south one goes, the hotter the food becomes with chillies and peppers featuring in the seasoning in Calabria. Local produce always features prominently and the seafood is outstanding all along the coast. | ![]() |

| Visitors to this part of Italy invariably return with tales of the great friendiness and generosity of the people. Do not be surprised, for example, to be invited to join in a family's lunch when sharing a train carriage. These simple friendly acts are commonplace and have endeared these people to our hearts. |
| We are an Anglo Italian company and know this area very well. With our knowledge and contacts we are confident to be able to find the right home for you. Our customer service is of great importance to us before, during and after purchasing a property. If you do not see any suitable property in the selection on our website then please contact us as we have many others on our database. |
![]() | The area is stunningly beautiful, the coastline spectacular and the mountains awesome. The climate is typical Mediterranean with mild winters and hot summers. The food and wines are, in our opinion, the best in Europe.
It is easy to get to from the UK with flights to Naples and Lamezia, Bari ansd Brindisi from Gatwick, Stansted and other regional airports. Lamezia is the only one in Calabria. Then either train or hire a car to the area, a journey time of about three hours. |
![]() | Property prices are very reasonable too ranging from, say, Euros 45,000 for a small apartment and then upwards for something more grand. The sky is the limit! We are so in love with this part of the world that we recently bought a home for ourselves in the pretty coastal town of San Nicola Arcella. The whole process was very straightforward using our in house Geometra, Giuseppe Russo (similar to a Surveyor here, only better!) and our UK based lawyer, Stefano Lucatello, at The International Property Law Centre. |
