Castellabate
Castellabate - was declared UNESCO world cultural heritage and as its name implies -'Castello del Abate' is 'the castle of the place.' It is a medieval town which is situated on a mountain top 278 metres above seas level. The town grew around the castle built in 1123 and is still in good order. It sheltered the population from the raiding Saracens.
Many alleyways and stairways lead through the old town giving the visitors a taste of what it 
was like in medieval times. Closeby are the coastal towns of Santa Maria di Castellabate and San Marco di Castellabate, only a few kilometres apart, these being lively working harbours popular with Italian tourists. Here you can see a spectacular coastline with sandy beaches and turquoise seas.
