About two hours drive directly south of Maratea on the Tyrrhenian coast is a small penisular. Dotted along this coastline are some of the most popular resort towns in Calabria, the most well known being Tropea.
This wonderful stretch of coastline benefits from a milder winter climate in comparison to the more northern part of Calabria. Already a firm favourite with Italians this area is now attracting serious attention from the International market both as a holiday resort and for property development.
Here the coastal road curves along high above a succession of beautiful beaches and fascinating rocky coves. The sea is crystal clear and a diver's delight.
All this area is steeped in history and there are many archealogical sites, castles and churches to see.(In Tropea alone, you will find 50 nobleman's palaces and seventeen churches). Greek, Roman, Saracens, Norman, Swabians, Aragonese and Spanish have all left their mark and contributed to its proud and independent culture.
On a fine day from the Cape which is called Capo Vaticano you can see Sicily and the Eolian Islands.

As with all these provinces there are many excellent regional dishes and wines to sample and Tropea in particular has many tavernas and restaurants to visit.
Lamezia International Airport is only about thirty miles away from Tropea and the A3 motorway can also be easily accessed.
