A JewelDiamante is an historical fishermen's village situated on a rock, safe from flooding, and - in ancient times - from pirates, too. As the name suggests, it is a jewel on this part of the coastline with a wealth of buildings and narrow alleys to explore. Property owners here can enjoy a wonderful promenade for strolling along and glorious views out to sea.
Many tourists visit Diamante - alot from northern Italy and also from other parts of Europe. Most have gone by early September, but many stay on for the chilli festival called the Festival del Peperoncino where chillis abound all over the town.

This pepper is able to prosper here because the climate is very mild, with approximately 300 days of sunshine. They can be seen everywhere in the town and it is because they are such a staple part of the Calabrian diet that they are important enough to have this festival named after them in September.
